What you will experience

You will be heavily involved in the tax preparation process. The process starts when a client sends in their tax documents, continues through delivering results to the client, and concludes with submitting a tax return to the IRS. Don't worry - you won't do it all by yourself! Our team of tax professionals will do most of the technical tax preparation work. You will experience:

How a tax office operates during the busy season.
What clients expect from a public accountant.
Documents and information required for tax preparation.
How a tax return works and how to read the forms.
How tax and investments are inextricably intertwined.
How teamwork in a professional environment works.
How technology (including AI) impacts the profession.

and so much more!

What's required

Succesful interns, first and foremost, have the right attitude and mindset. Be humble, hungry to learn and grow, and a good communicator (both verbal and written). Completing a tax class is not required. We'll ensure you are well prepared for your role on the team.

Plan to spend 15 - 20 hours a week in the office, especially in March and early April. We are extremely flexible, working around your school schedule, and accomodate occasional schedule changes because of tests and other school commitments. Early in the semester you'll learn the skills necessary and complete your chapel commitments. Since client work continues during spring break, you'll have the opportunity for more experience. With flexibility, some work may be required during the break.

Training

Tax season kicks into high gear around Valentines Day. This means we'll have about a month as the semester begins to get comfortable, learn what's necessary, and get those chapel requirements completed. Instruction will be both computer based and direct from our tax professionals.
